Linksys EtherFast Cable Modem review

Linksys has been a strong leader in the SOHO router market with over 60% shelf space. Linksys recently announced their newest product, the Linksys Etherfast Cable Modem with USB and Ethernet model BEFCMU0.

The Linksys Etherfast cable modem is a sleek unit, approx. 8" tall, 1.5" wide, and 6" deep in the vertical configuration (pictured right).The Linksys is colored in the standard Linksys colors, and has jacks for power, Ethernet, USB and Cable. There is also a reset button for hardware resets.

The Linksys has excellent LED's to show power, activity, cable and status. We also really liked the variable mounting features, from wall hanging mounts on the back of the device, to the included stand for vertical mounting. The Linksys also had large rubber feet on the bottom to keep it from slipping when stacked on other routers or switches.

The Linksys performed flawlessly, and synched up with the CMI cable modem network in the lab within a minute (we use Chartercomm.com). Performance was on par with our 3COM cable modem. Overall, the Linksys EtherFast cable modem with Ethernet and USB is a great value. At a street price of around $100, Linksys cable modems should be a hot seller this summer.
