Requirements=You MUST have a phone line modem. This is an odd kind of service called one-way, you get 512kbps downloads but all uploads & request are sent through standard phone lines. This means you are not online "All-the-time" as it is adevertised, but I have even recieved "Do you want to stay online?" messages which are notorious for kicking you off anyway. Oh yeah, & it doesn't free up the phone line either. But it is VERY fast compared to anything else I've ever expierienced, even the fiber optic connection at the library, and is definatly worth the miniscule $24.95 a month unlimited price. The modem rental is free for the first year, and the normal pricing hasn't been established yet due to the fact that they haven't offered this service that long. On the other hand, connection slows to a crawl when you upload anything due to the one way nature of it, and the e-mail servers are unbearably slow even when you have no messages to download (In other words, it's slow just to tell you you have none)!!! I have also knoticed some problems due to the one way connection, usually evedent in multi player online games. The ping values either report themselves as extremely fast, when in fact they are only that fast on the incoming route, or they jump up and down unbearably! Like from 198-2095 every 10 seconds!!!! But anyway, all this should clean up soon, as they are now promising that the entire area will soon be upgraded to two way service at the same price!!! Actually, last I checked, they said virtually all of Newnan was upgraded and that I should allready have 2 way service. They gave me a different number to call, but my classes in Atlanta conflict with their hours & I can't call before 5:00 to dispute this! Anyway, if you have Charter cable service already ($7.50 a month for 23 channels including HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, and The Movie Channel!), then I would DEFINATELY use this service. After all, it's like $3 more than AOL & it's INFINITELY faster!!!
Their instructions only tell me how to set it up for standard Windows 9x dial-up networking along with LAN settings, so my guess is, that since there is NO software of any kind that it can be set up on any operating system with Dial-up/LAN capabilities.
Special Limitations:
NONE! There is no install software or anything, just a list of settings for you to set up under dial-up networking...
