Printing Tips with MAC and Linux using the ZOOM Print Server

Printing from Linux:
Users of Linux have to set up /etc/printcap and the queue name is "lp". The following is an example for Red Hat Linux release 5.1 and above. (Thanks to Mike Cook)

Printing and Sharing a Printer from MAC:
The following steps are required to create a desktop printer icon and print
using the NAT router Print Server function:

Requirements:
The following requirements must be met before attempting to utilize the NAT
router Print Server function on the Macintosh platform

Mac OS 7.6.x or Mac OS 8.1 or later
LaserWriter driver v 8.5.1 or later
Desktop Printer Spooler 2.1 extension or later
Desktop Print Monitor 2.1 extension or later
Desktop Printer Utility 1.0 or later
Open Transport 1.1 or later
PostScript Compatible Printer attached to the NAT router
Note: These drivers, extensions and utilities are installed during a normal
installation of the Macintosh Operating System. If a Custom Installation was
performed, you may need to go back and Install other modules from your
Macintosh CDs to obtain these files.

Creating the Desktop Icon:
Locate the Desktop Printer Utility (usually located in the Apple Extras
folder on your hard disk)
Select the Printer (LPR) and click OK.
Change the Postscript Printer Description File (or PPD) to match your
printer. (This file should have come with your printer software. If not,
contact your manufacturer.)
Select Change under Internet Printer and click OK.
Enter the LAN IP Address of the NAT router . (Default: 192.168.123.254) Enter
Ip for the queue name.
Click Verify to assure a connection is made then click OK.
Go to the File menu and select Save.
Enter a name and location for the desktop printer icon and click OK.
Set your printing options by highlighting the Desktop Printer icon and select
Change Setup from the Printing Menu
Repeat steps 1-9 for all Mac OS computers on your network.
